Sheriff Schmerber on hand to support Webb County Sheriff's initiative

EAGLE PASS - Sheriff Tom Schmerber was in laredo, Texas, this week to lend his support for a border initiative spearheaded by Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

The project, dubbed Operation Border Smart, is a South Texas initiative that would encompass seven counties along the Texas-Mexico border and is aimed at deterring and disrupting illegal trafficking in the area.

While the project is still in the preliminary stages, Sheriff Schmerber hopes that funding will become available to target these activities in Maverick County.
